Abu Dhabi farmers to supply meat to local Carrefour

Abu Dhabi farmers are to start supplying meat to major supermarket chains across the country, according to local news reports.

The Abu Dhabi Farmers Services Centre (FSC), which was set up to support local sustainable agriculture, announced it had received an order to supply lamb, veal and chicken to local branches of Carrefour, and was in discussions with other retailers.

FCS chief executive Chris Hirst said the intiative was part of the centre’s plan to increase livestock farmer’s incomes and help them expand into commercial meat production.

“We work through all stages of production and the supply chain to improve these products, whether agricultural or animal, so that it meets consumers’ demands,” he said.
