BIOTECON Diagnostics has launched an assay for detecting and identifying two Salmonella serovars.

Foodproof Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) Typhimurium (ST) Detection LyoKit is a lyophilized, pre-aliquoted rapid test for the identification of the serovars in one assay.

The system is the first multiplex real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) rapid test on the market, according to the firm, and can detect the two serovars in less than 24 hours.

It has been validated with more than 110 SE and ST strains in combination with relevant matrices, such as egg shells, chocolate and cheese.

The pre-filled reaction mix is lyophilized, and the DNA sample preparation can be added to the reaction tube, with less pipetting steps so the risk of cross-contamination is reduced.

LyoKit includes an internal amplification control and the Uracil-N-Glycosylase system, which prevents carry-over contamination by prior PCR amplificates.

Foodproof LyoKits Product Series will be expanded with Salmonella, STEC and Listeria monocytogenes to be launched.
