Danish food ingredient supplier KMC has introduced a clean label potato starch for use in low fat spreads, as an alternative to pricey hydrocolloids.

The ingredient, dubbed NatureBind 1341, is intended to allow manufacturers to make dairy-free, E-number-free spreads. Added for stabilisation of the water phase in low fat spread production, KMC is touting the ingredient as a price stable alternative to hydrocolloids, such as gelatine, pectin and alginates.

“Using NatureBind 1341 will give you a smooth and stable emulsion with excellent flavor release without compromising spreadability,” the company said.
