British pork pies were a hit with Chinese consumers at the Restaurant & Bar show in Hong Kong last week.

The Red Tractor-assured pork pies from Melton Mowbray in the UK were served cold, which surprised and delighted guests at the Bpex and Eblex stand (respective UK pork and red meat levy boards).

Eblex export manager JP Garnier said: “Our push on the Hong Kong market with added-value pork products has been successful, with some high-class supermarkets now presenting a British meat section with sausages and bacon. Premium pork is now on the menu of some of the best restaurants in Hong Kong and the number of brands and importers is also rising.

“Hong Kong is a large market on its own with a population of eight million, a sophisticated food culture, high purchasing power and no indigenous pork production. It is also the gateway to the huge Chinese market.”
