Nestlé has opened a new System Technology Center in Switzerland that brings together on one site the expertise it uses to combine products, capsules and machines such as those used in its Nespresso and Nescafé Dolce Gusto beverage systems.

The company said its new center in Orbe was now the base for 120+ experts from 25 countries, specializing in fields including industrial design, machine technology, packaging, engineering, micro-electronics and robotics, as Nestlé’s works to develop integrated products, systems and services.

“One of our biggest opportunities for growth lies in innovation,” said Nestlé Chief Executive Officer Paul Bulcke at the opening ceremony.

“We have led the way in beverage systems for more than 25 years thanks to our strong research and development capabilities, and our expertise in machine engineering," he added.

Nestlé also unveiled its premium Nescafé Milano Lounge system at the Orbe opening - the latest innovation from the system technology center. This system produces hot and cold beverages including cappuccino, latte or gourmet hot chocolate.

Consumers can use its interactive color touch screen, to choose either skimmed or semi-skilled milk, select coffee strength and different cup sizes.

The system, which has been developed for Nestlé Professional, the company's foodservice business, to help operators compete in the fast-growing, self-service, on-the-go, specialty coffee category.
