The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has introduced a series of online food safety training courses for the food industry, starting with a module on food additives and flavourings.

The first module takes 30-45 minutes to complete and consists of videos dealing with regulatory issues around food additives and flavourings. The FSAI says it is intended as a starting place for staff and owners of food companies looking to increase their knowledge of the subject, including terminology, labelling requirements, legislation and functional classes.

FSAI chief executive Professor Alan Reilly said in a statement: “It is important for food businesses to ensure they strictly adhere to all regulatory requirements governing the use of additives and flavourings in food…These resources form part of an ongoing programme the FSAI is undertaking to provide free and easily accessible information and learning resources on key topics of interest to the food industry.”
