Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched a pathogen detection system that it claims delivers test efficiencies for food safety laboratories testing for common bacterial pathogens.

The SureTect PCR System combines a real-time PCR instrument with bespoke software and pre-filled reagent components that together with a single PCR protocol, streamlines the test workflow.

Thermo Fisher Scientific said results for all targets and matrix types can be obtained in less than 24 hours of the food sample being received, leading to faster release.

Sumi Thaker, VP Global Marketing, Microbiology, Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: “With the SureTect System, food testing laboratories get easy set-up and result-reading, and flexible throughput, from fewer than 10 to several hundred tests per day.”

Assays for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes are available now with Listeria species and E.coli O157:H7 being released at the end of Q1 2013 with further tests already in development.
