Barry Callebaut has reached a settlement with workers at a factory in the UK after strikes were staged earlier in the week over a pay dispute.

Around 100 employees at Callebaut’s factory in Banbury, Oxfordshire, belonging to the Unite union, went on two 24-hour strikes on Sunday and Monday and threatened more action after workers at the site were offered just a 1.5% pay offer in April this year while employees at another site received a 2% pay rise.

A spokesperson for Barry Callebaut told ConfectioneryNews.com: “Yesterday, employees in our Banbury factory took a ballot and accepted the proposed salary increase supported by the Union representatives.”

The firm refused to comment whether workers had been offered the same pay as counterparts in another Barry Callebaut UK factory.

The agreement puts an end to two 48 hour stoppages planned by the Unite members on Friday 28 September and Monday 1 October.
