JBT FoodTech expands sterilisation technology

JBT FoodTech has purchased technology from H.G. Molenaar and Co to offer a “broader worldwide portfolio” to its customers.

The deal involves rotary sterilisation technology and strengthens the firm’s in-container sterilization portfolio for the canned food industry. 

The terms of the transaction for the South African-based company’s technology were not disclosed.

JBT FoodTech added it planned a detailed integration “over time”​ of Molenaar technology into its existing South African production facility, where it will leverage its current capacity and engineering capabilities. 

Pleased with the deal’

A JBT FoodTech spokesman told FoodProductionDaily.com it was pleased with the deal and the technology it offered.

The continuous can sterilisation mode technology is good for our portfolio and will help our customers worldwide.

“In the canning business there are all lines of technology and this technology certainly is a benefit that will enable us to offer a broad service.

“It is one of our core technologies and the acquisition is another part of our strategy as we continue to grow our business,” ​he said.

“We operate in a broad service in our organisation and we are looking to grown beyond sales and extend our aftermarket business to support our customers​.”

Molenaar is a family-owned and operated company that has engineered, manufactured and distributed large-scale machinery for the food and beverage industry since 1949.

Natural complement

Steve Smith, vice president and division manager for JBT FoodTech’s food processing systems division said: "Molenaar's innovative can handling technology coupled with its large capacity cooker ​[and] coolers are a natural complement to JBT's existing product offering.

"We can now offer our global customers an even broader range of solutions tailored to their specific processing needs​."

JBT Corporation employs 3,300 people worldwide and operates sales, service, manufacturing and sourcing operations located in more than 25 countries.
