Welsh meat body Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) will promote the principality’s lamb at Middle East trade show Gulfood from 19 to 22 February.

Taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event is expected to attract over 60,000 visitors, providing Welsh producers an opportunity to market their product.

HCC marketing manager Laura Dodds said: “Exports play a key role in the success of the Welsh Lamb brand. They account for about a third of all Welsh lamb sales, with demand increasing not only in our traditional European markets, but also in Canada and the Far East.

“HCC will be at Gulfood with our processing partners from Wales as part of our continuing efforts to further increase demand for Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef. We will talk to existing and potential customers from across the globe and giving them samples of our world-beating products to taste.”

According to the organisation, Welsh lamb has been on sale in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 2007, and the country is the UK’s largest food and drink export market in the Middle East and North Africa, totalling £109m ($172m) in 2010, up 22% year-on-year.
