Consumers and brand owner demands driving trends in product inspection

Increasingly sophisticated consumers and more demanding food manufacturers means the landscape for product inspection is changing quickly.

Warren Tomlinson, of Mettler Toledo, told FoodProductionDaily.com that the demands for greater variety and heightened quality were driving developments in the sector.

Tougher regulatory demands and innovations such as a wider array of packaging designs meant that product inspection technology was having to become more versatile, while coping with higher line speeds.

However, the business development manager said the sector was relishing the challenges as it sought to develop systems that were easy to use and greener.

The incorporation of data collection software to provide proof of due diligence was also something that would continue to be key, he added.
