Volac took a £1m hit to its operating profit its full year ended in February due to the tough trading conditions, but is upbeat about growth prospects and integration of recent acquisitions.

The UK dairy ingredients firm reported operating profit of £5.069m, while turnover was up 4 per cent to £88m.

High points of the year were the expansion of its food grade lactose production in the UK, acquisition of piglet and pet nutrition business Parnutt Foods, and capital investment in Czech sales and marketing firm Agro-Best.

Directors said: "The company has ambitious growth plans and we look forward to integrating and growing our two latest acquisitions, and continuing to look for new and exciting collaborative opportunities to leverage our knowledge and contacts in nutrition and processing.”
