EU roadshow to combat kids' obesity
The EU has launched a new campaign to encourage healthy eating among school children, bringing the Tasty Bunch roadshow to 18000 kids in 180 schools, in seven counties.
Around 22 million children in the EU are overweight, of which five million are obese. The new campaign, with its slogan ‘Eat it, Drink it, Move it’, builds on other initiatives to improve children’s health, like milk and fruit provisions and a raft of research projects.
“When we look around and see the number of overweight children, it is clear that we must act now,” said Mariann Fischer Boel, commissioner for agriculture and rural development. “School Fruit and School Milk are two steps in the right direction, and with the healthy eating campaign we also deliver the message that ‘its fun to be fit’ right to the school gate.”
The roadshow will visit schools in Belgium, France, the UK, Ireland, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland.
