Appointments roundup: GMA, Cobell, Solbar

Appointments over the last month include a new technical and operations director at Cobell to ensure ethical, environmental and health standards. Solbar has recruited a North American business director to focus on specialty soy proteins, while the GMA secures an interim president as it seeks a permanent successor.

GMA

The Grocery Manufacturers Association has appointed a veteran of the organization as its interim president and CEO.

Manly Molpus served as President and CEO of GMA from 1990 to 2006 and has decided to return to the association for the interim post, starting next month.

He will remain until a successor to the current GMA President and CEO, Cal Dooley, is named. Molpus is currently President of the Molpus Advisory Group.

Cobell

The European fruit ingredients suppliers, Cobell has announced the appointment of a technical and operations director to ensure its products meet “the highest ethical, environmental and health standards”.

Andrew Clark takes over responsibility for quality and technical standards from source to the end product and will also deal with high profile accreditation standards such as FairTrade, Soil Association and the British Retail Consortium along with Taste of West and 5-A-Day membership.

Nick Sprague, chairman of Cobell, said: “We live in an age where it’s vital for companies like ours to be able to reassure customers about where products come from and how they are produced.”

Andrew spent ten years with leading drinks supplier Allied Lyons where he focused on technical and production processes for winemaking and alcoholic drinks, before going on to work for Thatchers Cider.

Solbar

Solbar Industries has announced the appointment of Greg Horn to direct the company's business, marketing and sales activities in North America (US and Canada).

Horn is responsible for implementing of the Israeli companies marketing plan focused on specialty soy proteins including isolates, functional and textured soy concentrates and its Bontex steam-textured soy proteins.

Horn has 15 years of experience in the US, European, and Australian food and nutritional ingredient markets and has developed strategic marketing plans for major food companies, including ConAgra Food Ingredients, Penford Food Ingredients and Aviagen.

Horn said he took up the post because there is a need in the North American market for a dedicated and trusted soy company.

He added: “Solbar is poised to be the soy protein supplier of choice to the food and nutritional markets in the US and Canada.”

Cyvex Nutrition

Cyvex Nutrition has announced the appointment of economics graduate Rosalie Chi to the newly created post of marketing coordinator. Chi will be responsible for all marketing activities including media planning, public relations, pricing, promotional collateral and web strategy.

The company said she brings an “enthusiasm for the nutrition business and will continue to focus our efforts on researching, developing and delivering unique, science-based ingredients to the marketplace”.

Chi, who graduated from the University of California with degrees in Economics and Sociology, will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of marketing and branding initiatives, to further Cyvex’ profile in the burgeoning nutraceutical manufacturing industry.
