Plus Pack launches tamper evident bowl in UK

A new 'tamper evident' bowl with a sealed lid, which can only be removed by breaking the tear flap and 'safety lock' on the packaging, offers food producers a better way to ensure their products reach consumers securely.

The plastic packaging, called DiamondBowl SureClose, is ideal for green salads, chopped fresh fruit, pasta salad and other delicatessen products, according to its maker - Danish packaging group Plus Pack.

The firm said it has launched the packaging, made of clear OPS plastic, in the UK to reflect consumer demand for security.

"Consumers increasingly want to be reassured that the food contents are untouched when they select a product off the supermarket shelf or out of a chilled cabinet," said Shawn Roberts, head of UK sales for Plus Pack.

He said the company had jumped ahead of the competition by using modern thermoforming technology to make the bowl.

"The 'tamper-evident' principle has long been used in the pharmaceuticals industry, where the safety concept in packaging is predominantly made of injection-moulded plastic packaging."

Plus Pack, now a leading plastic packager in Europe, said it had invested heavily in thermoforming machinery and planned to double its production capacity over the next few years.

The group already offers sealed food packaging in black and clear APET, within the same product family as its DiamondBowl.
