FMC Foodtech achieves efficient batter mixing

Industrial food processing systems provider FMC FoodTech has
launched a new batter mixer that offers greater capacity, easy
maintenance and improved hygiene resulting in increased
productivity and lower costs.

FMC FoodTech claims that the ProMIX, as it is called, provides the highest capacity of any batter mixer available on the market today, capable of mixing capacities up to 1,400 kilogrammes of batter per hour. Additionally, the ProMIX also has variable batter level control for half-batch capabilities for end-of-day production runs, decreasing batter wastage.

Increasing productivity while at the same time achieving lower energy and material wastage is a key concern for food processors. The rise in raw material and energy prices means that firms have to look at every aspect of the supply chain to identify where possible cost savings can be made.

"The ProMIX provides processors with an unmatched ability to control and monitor productivity," said Elizabeth Monasterio, Stein product line manager for FMC FoodTech. "It is the most reliable and flexible batter mixer on the market today."

Because of the ProMIX's advanced technology, it can automatically monitor viscosity, eliminate lumps and mix different types of batter. For processors that need consistent batter viscosity, the ProMIX includes a viscosity control that monitors and maintains batter thickness to +/- 1 percent from set point.

There is also continuous batter recirculation to ensure product consistency and an electronic level probe to monitor batter level in the mixing tank. When batter or dry mix levels are low, a warning alarm alerts the operator.

"Due to its streamlined design, the new ProMIX is the most hygienic batter mixer available," said Monasterio. "The open frame design eliminates surface areas for batter build up, thereby reducing the possibility of product and bacteria harbourage."

Another important feature of the simplified design is the removal of the chain, sprocket and belt drives. Additionally, all the bearings are sealed and the ProMIX uses a single stainless steel pump for both viscosity measurement and batter transfer, which results in a system with fewer components, making it easier to clean and inspect.

FMC FoodTech is a market leader in the supply of technology solutions and services for the global food industry. The company offers integrated solutions across the entire food processing continuum from meat, seafood and poultry, to fruits and vegetables, beverages and milk and convenience foods.
