Ecolab is all set to present its health and safety solutions for the entire food supply chain at the forthcoming Food Safety & Hygiene show in Frankfurt. Company spokesperson Marcus Ley tells foodqualitynews.com what the firm's domino concept is all about, and what he hopes to accomplish at the event.

"Food Safety & Hygiene 2003 forms an integral part of our marketing campaign for this year, it's perfect for the domino concept," says Ley.

"Unlike other exhibitions that tend to be of a more general nature, this show is entirely dedicated to our marketplace."

The firm has chosen its domino concept as its central theme at the show. The domino concept is the underlying story of our business," explains Ley. "As far as I know, we are the only food safety company in the world that can operate at any stage of the food process.

"At the farming stage we can provide solutions for corn, malt - whatever is required in the brewing process - and we can also provide solutions for livestock. We have the ability to cover every farming sector."

The domino concept is a phrase that encapsulates this complete hygiene management process, quite literally from the farm to the fork. Ley claims that the strategy provides a holistic programme to vertically integrated food supply chains, securing food hygiene and brand protection as well as safeguarding consumer health & the environment.

"The next step up from processing is distribution, and we also provide safety and hygiene solutions for catering firms and supermarkets," says Ley. He argues that when each link of the supply chain operates in partnership, a strategy to prevent a chain reaction of catastrophic events can be more easily established.

Ley also believes that Ecolab is pioneering a new model of operation. "This is the way the industry is going," he says. "The food supply chain upstream and downstream is becoming more integrated. Marks & Spencer is a perfect example. We have the ability to apply the same stringent standards up and down the company's supply chain."

Ecolab hopes that event will help raise awareness of food hygiene and health and safety in all aspects of food production. And Ley believes that the show is the perfect opportunity for the company to demonstrate the comprehensiveness of its services.

Food Safety & Hygiene has been set up in direct response to the current political and public debate on all the issues dealing with the security of our food sources. Running alongside Fi Europe at the Messe Frankfurt, Germany on 18-20 November 2003, it will form part of Europe's largest gathering of international food ingredients suppliers, producers and manufacturers.

Between them, Food Safety & Hygiene and Fi Europe 2003 are expected to attract over 12,500 visiting food professionals, and 1,000 exhibiting companies from over 32 countries as well as 11 country pavilions, a service and organic pavilion.

Ecolab provides cleaning and hygiene systems and service solutions to the industrial, institutional and healthcare sectors. The company, which reported sales of $3.3 billion (€2.8bn) last year, is the latest in a series of high profile service & technology providers to join the line up at Food Safety & Hygiene.
