US public health and safety company NSF International has registered WD-40's professional silicone spray lubricant.

US public health and safety company NSF International has registered WD-40's professional silicone spray lubricant. This is the first consumer lubricant to be registered through the NSF nonfood compounds registration programme. The scheme is a continuation of the USDA product approval and listing programme and is based on regulatory requirements for appropriate use, ingredient and labeling.

The programme uses NSF registration guidelines to evaluate the safety of chemical products used in and around food establishments. WD-40's professional silicone spray lubricant is listed by the NSF as a H2 approved lubricant, or a product used in places where there is no possibility of food contact. H2 approval verifies that no harmful ingredients such as heavy metals and carcinogens are used in the formulation.

NSF also lists registered products on the www.nsf.org/usda NSF web site, providing instant registration confirmation to buyers, users and inspectors.

"With the registration of WD-40's professional silicone spray lubricant, NSF is expanding upon the previous USDA scope from US meat and poultry plant applications to applications in the international consumer market," said Kenji Yano, NSF nonfoods manager.

"WD-40 company's registration of its professional product line is a direct reflection of their commitment to providing safe products."
