CSM, the parent of bakery ingredients company BakeMark International, has boosted its fats capabilities for the Eastern European market with the purchase of Unilever's Hungarian bakery ingredients business. The new addition will be rolled into BakeMark Magyarország, its Hungarian operating company.

The company is confident that the acquisition will provide it with the opportunity to consolidate its position in breads and improve its offer to pastry bakers in Hungary and neighbouring countries.

Csaba Bölcskei of BakeMark Magyarország commented: "This is an exciting development for the Eastern European bakery market. Effectively, Hungary's leading bakery fats business is becoming part of the world's leading bakery supplies business."

With a turnover of €13 million, Unilever Magyarország is the largest supplier of bakery fats to the Hungarian market. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
