Cognis Nutrition & Health has launched a new grade of high potency natural-source vitamin E powder. Called Covitol 1185 HPMC, the product is a vitamin E succinate, coated with HyproxyPropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) using patented Cognis technology.

Vitamin E succinate is an ester form of d-alpha tocopherol (natural vitamin E) that offers beneficial oxidative stability. It is solid at room temperature, permitting use in direct compression tablets and hard gelatin capsules.

The HPMC coating on the surface of the particles is responsible for the superior flow properties of Covitol 1185 HPMC, which Cognis claims means it has an improved performance over other succinate products in a tableting machine or capsule filler.

The coating material is approved under food law in Europe, which means that Covitol 1185 HPMC can be used in dietary supplements, functional foods and 'normal' foods, as well as in pharmaceutical products.

Extracted from natural bean and seed oils and available in a wide variety of forms to suit many different requirements, Cognis claims that the Covitol range is the industry's most complete line of natural-source vitamin E products.

The Covitol product is being presented by Cognis at this week's Vitafoods show in Geneva. Cognis can be found on stand 7268.
