Cape Cod comes to Europe

The leading US producer of kettle chips, Cape Cod Potato Chips, is
to extend its presence in the European arena via a deal with
Ireland's Largo Food Exports. Top of the list are Ireland, France,
Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

One of the leading US suppliers of kettle-cooked potato chips, Cape Cod Potato Chips, is to bring its brand to Europe via a distribution agreement with Ireland's Largo Food Exports.

Under the terms of the deal, Largo will manufacture and distribute Cape Cod's potato chips throughout Ireland and parts of mainland Europe. Already successful in the UK through the Boston Food Co, Cape Cod Potato Chips said it expected the joint venture to result in multi-million dollar growth and expansion of its brand throughout greater markets in Europe over the next several months.

Largo Foods is the largest Irish-owned crisp and snack manufacturer. Brands made by Largo include the international Hunky Dorys brand, Perri and Sam Spudz.

"We are extremely pleased to announce our partnership with Largo Foods," said Bill Germano, Cape Cod's vice president of marketing and sales. "As Cape Cod continues to expand its presence worldwide, one of our key long-term global strategies is to establish the right partnerships. The combination of Largo Foods' experience in the potato chip manufacturing industry, coupled with its strong distribution capabilities, will enable Cape Cod Potato Chips to expand faster. We anticipate strong sales from Europe by year-end."

Cape Cod's first priority is to offer its kettle-cooked chips, including Classic, Reduced Fat and Russets, to retailers in Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands this summer. Over the next 18 months, the company plans to further expand throughout mainland Europe, capitalising on Largo Foods' distribution expertise.

In addition, the company also is developing new recipes for speciality European flavours, including Cape Cod Potato Chips Fresh Garden Herb flavour, which will be available this summer.

"Once our core products are available at retail, we will also begin creating special recipes that are unique to European tastes," said Germano. "Speciality flavours, such as Fresh Garden Herb, have met with great success in our research and we look forward to offering additional European flavours soon."

Kettle-cooked chips are broadly accepted throughout Europe and are continuing to grow in popularity, the company said. "For the past three years, Cape Cod has been gathering a large following in the UK," said Germano. "We are thrilled to now offer our hand-made potato chips to a greater number of consumers throughout Europe."

Already the leader in kettle-cooked chips in the United States, Cape Cod products are also sold throughout Canada, the Caribbean, UK and Spain.
