D is for Dandy

Danish chewing gum manufacturer Dandy, which changed its name in October last year to Gumlink, is to establish a new research and development centre in Vejle, Denmark.
Gumlink came into being after the Dandy - a producer of chewing gum since 1927 - sold its well known Stimorol, V6 and Dirol brands to the UK confectionery giant Cadbury Schweppes as part of a €309 million deal.
Today, the company focuses on contract development and research in chewing gum technology. A third of the 75 staff at the new centre will conduct basic research into the development of new sweeteners, flavourings and gum bases as well as making explorations into gene technology.
According to the local Danish newspaper Fredericia Dagblad, the new research centre is of a size that will effectively double the area occupied by Gumlink's current research facilities, and there are rumours that the investment amounts to some €7.15 million.
