Omega-3 DHA, developed by Clover Corp Ltd, is to be added to a new bread called Tip Top Up produced by food company George Weston Foods, a subsidiary of Associated British Foods, IndustrySearch.com reports.
Natural oils supplier Clover said that under terms of the agreement with George Weston, Clover's microencapsulated HiDHA oils would be added to the new bread.
The deal could potentially lead to Clover's Omega-3 DHA oils being used in Weston's products globally, Clover added.
The new Omega-3 DHA enriched bread contains enough HiDHA oils to increase the average daily intake of this essential nutrient by 50 per cent, Clover said.
Omega-3 DHA is incorporated into all human cells, the brain, heart, lungs, nervous systems, muscles and joints and is also considered to be beneficial for infant brain development and ongoing mental function.
"Currently Australians consume less than half the levels of Omega-3 DHA recommended by international experts for optimal health and well-being," the company said.
Weston baking division chief executive Brian Robinson said it was working with its parent company Associated British Foods to include Clover's Omega-3 DHA in other food products on a global basis.
Clover executive chairman Hamish Drummond said the current supply agreements were a significant breakthrough for Clover. "The potential to supply the Weston's group globally is a significant step strategically for the future growth of Clover," he said.
Tip Top Up is scheduled to be on supermarket shelves from 22 July.
