The Ajinomoto Association Prize for Research in Nutrition has been awarded to Professor Claude Ricour, Chief Physician of Hepatic Gastroenterology and Paediatric Nutrition at Hôpital Necker in Paris.

The award recognises the research undertaken by Professor Ricour and his team in understanding the mechanisms of malnutrition and intestinal insufficiency in infants and children.

Professor Ricour and his colleagues have published more than eighty papers since 1989, many of which focus on understanding the medical challenges of treating children requiring enteral or parenteral nutrition. The team's work explores not only the requirements for re-nutrition of such children but also the successful treatment and feeding of children requiring small bowel transplantation.

Now in its eleventh year, the Ajinomoto Association Prize was established to support advances in nutritional research. Each year the Prize is awarded to individual researchers or teams whose work furthers understanding of the relationship between food and health. In presenting the award, Hans Heezen, President of Ajinomoto Switzerland AG said, " We are delighted to be able to support Professor Ricour in the continuation of his invaluable research."
