Food processors in Australia warned retailers this week that bread prices are set to rise by as much as 15 cents a loaf. This is the second major price increase in a year, Industry Search reports. The cost of some breakfast cereals and muesli bars would also rise due to a planned five per cent rise in wholesale prices by baking giant Goodman Fielder, the Herald Sun reported Friday. The company said increased wheat, fuel and transport costs were responsible for the price rise.If retailers translate the maximum increase to consumers, loaves of bread would be likely to rise by between 10 and 15 cents.Bread prices rose by around five per cent in October last year. Rival baker George Weston Foodswere to meet Friday to discuss similar price increases.
