Coca-Cola, the American soft drink company, announced on May 28th that it is withdrawing 700,000 bottles of Fanta-Pomelo, a grapefruit flavoured soda marketed in Belgium, because exposure to light had affected the soda's colour and taste. The company stressed there was no health risk. "If it is exposed to light for an extended period it has tended to change colour and taste so we cannot guarantee the quality," said Jonathan Chandler, communications director for Coke in western Europe. "It is not a risk." The recall only affected 20-centilitre bottles mainly sold in hotels, restaurants and cafes. Fanta-Pomelo sold in cans or larger bottles was not affected. According to Mr. Chandler, the problem could be resolved by adding vitamin C to the drink and that the company will resume marketing the soda in its smaller bottles. Source: Wall Street Journal
