The French coop group Union SDA acquired two sugar refineries/distilleries Univalem and Gasa , located in the northwest part of Brazil. These acquisitions were made within the framework of the joint venture with the sugar producer Cosan. Financing for the two acquisitions will be covered by FF 270m investment in Brazil, announced then. The Univalem sugar refinery can process 8,000 tons of sugar cane per day, whereas Gasa can process 4,500 tons. Added to the volumes produced at Ipaussu plant, the French-Brazilian subsidiary of sugar and alcohol, held at 47.5 per cent by Union SDA, at 47.5 per cent by Cosan and at 5 per cent by Sucre et Denrees, doubles its sugar cane processing capacities to three million tons, equivalent to 400,000 tons of sugar. For FY 2000-2001, the projected turnover of Union SDA should reach FF5,250m, the cash flow should amount to FF 740m and the consolidated final result to FF 120m. Source: Les Echos
