PacificHealth Laboratories, Inc., a US nutrition company, announced this week the launch of a new sports nutrition product. Accelerade®, a sports drink, claims to increase the energy efficiency of carbohydrates consumed by athletes. The company added in a statement that this is achieved because of a 4-1 ratio of carbohydrate to protein in the drink that increases the movement of carbohydrate from the blood into the muscle during exercise. The energy drink is positioned for use during exercise, not for recovery. Accelerade comes as a ready-to-mix powder in two flavours, orange and lemon-lime. It will be sold in 2.2 lb. canisters, containing 28 servings with a suggested retail price of $23.95.
