SAF(USA), a subsidiary of Paris-based Lesaffre et Compagnie, the global yeast company, announced on Tuesday the purchase of Red Star Yeast from Sensient Technologies Corporation, a supplier of colours, flavours and fragrances. The announcement comes but two months after Sensient Technologies called off negotiations with Lesaffre et Compagnie over the sale of Red Yeast. Lesaffre will retain the Red Star name and the company's 350 employees in Milwaukee, Baltimore and Oakland, California, combiningthem with SAF(USA)'s Dothan, Alabama facility.According to the two companies the combined Red Star/SAF(USA) business will have sales of nearly$200 million plants in four states and around 500 employees.
