Canadian dairy food company, PurNutra Inc., is due to launch this week a new Omega-3/ DHA enriched cheese. The cheese line, distributed in the U.S under the name OmegaSmart and in Canada under the PurNutra brand, has over 18 times the amount of the omega 3 known as DHA and more than triple the amount of the omega 3 known as EPA, compared to goat cheddar. Health studies suggest that DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, is indicated in helping to reduce the risk of heart disease, depression and attention deficit disorder. The company plans to expand the line of omega-3 / DHA enriched dairy products later in the year.
