Both Vitamin E and Vitamin C can help prevent cataracts, according to a recent health study. The cataract condition is believed to be age-related and causes eyes to cloud up and reduce vision. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin studied the eye records of 3,089 participants aged from 43 to 86 years. They found that persons using multivitamins or supplements containing Vitamin E or Vitamin C for more than l0 years had a 60 per cent lower risk of obtaining a cataract than non-users of the vitamins. This suggested to the researchers that a reduction of oxidative stress could slow the development of cataracts over a five-year risk period. Full findings are published in the current issue of the Archives of Opthalmology. Source: Foods for the Future
