The UK Agriculture Minister has explained his decision not to attack former Conservative cabinet ministers following the publication of Lord Phillips report on BSE, the Times reported. Nick Brown MP said:"This has been a national tragedy - everybody accepts that I thought it right...to do it in a measured and restrained way." But he has criticised the former government for not acting "a lot sooner" to stop the disease getting into the food chain and says their "response didn't work". Mr Brown stresses there is a considerable amount of research going on into vCJD in humans and the disease in animals, not just cattle.
