The multistate outbreak of Shiga-toxin producing E.coli O121 which sickened 19 people has ended, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found tennis rackets being used to scoop mung bean sprouts onto the conveyor belt during inspections at a facility linked to an outbreak of E.coli O121 which has sickened 17 people.
EU Member States have endorsed strict hygiene measures for ready-to-eat sprouted seeds to prevent incidents such as the deadly E.coli O104 outbreak in Germany and France last year.
Sprouted seed producers should introduce extra food safety measures throughout the production chain in the wake of the deadly E.coli outbreak in Europe this year, said the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
The EU has banned the import of seeds from Egypt, including fenugreek seeds, after they were identified as the probable cause of recent E.coli 104 H4 outbreaks which killed 48 people in Germany, sickened about 4000 and affected 15 people in France.
