Beverage, sweet goods, snacks and health and wellness sales drove robust sales growth in Givaudan’s flavours division in the six months to June 30, the company reported.
A downturn in sales throughout Western Europe has seen Barry Callebaut fail to meet its projected growth for the first quarter. However the Swiss chocolate supplier said it is still outperforming the market.
Flavour and fragrance firm Givaudan’s first half net profits crashed by 40 per cent as raw material costs and record currency rates take their toll on the Swiss company, despite good local growth in its flavours businesses.
Givaudan’s has reported fair growth in Q1 in local currencies but a decline in Swiss Francs, but the second half of the year promises greater protection against raw material cost rises as a series of price increases will come into effect in Q2.
Givaudan has reported 2011 sales of CHF 4.2bn, up 8.9% on 2010, with the firm’s Latin American flavours division leading the way with strong sales in beverage, confectionery and savoury.
Gourmet and specialty chocolate, and emerging markets, drove sales volume growth for Barry Callebaut in Q1, but Western Europe and the US are still showing mixed results.
Latin America and Asia led the way with strong sales for Givaudan’s flavour division in 2009, prodding it towards 1.9 per cent sales growth in local currencies in a tough year for industry.
Symrise has reported good sales growth in local currencies the first half of 2008 driven by flavours and emerging markets, although fragrance growth was hit by the drop-off in consumer spending on luxury goods.
Novozymes has reported sales of DKK435m (€58.35m) for food enzymes
in Q3 2007, during which it launched its long-awaited
acrylamide-reducing enzyme Acrylaway.
Givaudan's full year results for 2006 indicate that the flavour and
fragrance giant is profiting from the streamlining of its commodity
ingredient operations.
