Women who consume one quarter of grapefruit every day may be at a
30 percent higher risk of breast cancer, suggests an
epidemiological study from Hawaii and LA.
Up to 15 percent of Florida's citrus crop was destroyed when
Hurricane Wilma hit the southern part of the state on Monday,
according to preliminary estimates by Florida Citrus Mutual, the
state's largest citrus grower organization.
The hurricanes that swept through the US last year caused great
devastation to many crops. Grapefruit prices, in particular,
soared, provoking flavor companies including IFF to come up with
alternatives, Philippa Nuttall reports.
Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits are known to be a rich
source of vitamin C but new evidence suggests they also contain
compounds that fight cancer.
Ocean Spray, the US co-operative group best known for its cranberry
juices, has launched a new grapefruit juice which it claims can
give drinkers an energy boost and meet all their vitamin C
requirements.
