Salt Reduction Forum

Salt Reduction Forum

  • Website:

Salt reduction remains a key public health priority globally, and is seen as an area of importance for many within the food industry. Despite huge success stories from sugar reduction efforts in some countries, public health experts and campaigners still suggest that much more needs to be done to reduce salt intakes in Europe and the rest of the world.

In this roundtable, FoodNavigator takes a look at the road map to salt reduction, asking where we are now, and where we can go from here.

Join us as we ask our panel of global experts some of the burning questions, including:

  • What is the evidence for the need to reduce salt, and how far have we come?
  • How has the industry managed to reduce salt in certain areas?
  • Where are the main challenges in reducing salt even further?
  • Are there certain product categories or regional markets that have bigger challenges? (can we even measure salt intake reliably in some markets?)
  • Are there new technologies or methodologies that help to reduce salt?
  • Are targets set out by authorities including WHO realistic and achievable?
  • What about fortified salt? Can salt reduction policies go hand in hand with efforts to fortify salt? Is salt the best target for fortification strategies?
