Wonky fruit crisps
In the UK, husband and wife led start-up Spare Snacks and Scrapples, are launching their products into Morrisons, Ocado, Amazon, BA, and Co-op this month in new multipacks.
The wonky fruit crisps are made from fruit that would otherwise go to waste. They are made from 100% whole fruit and start from 60p per pack, with no added sugar, salt, fat or oil. One pack counts as one of your five-a-day.
“Being able to bring Scrapples to the mass market across retail, schools and travel is an important milestone for us and comes at the perfect back-to-school moment,” said founder Ben Whitehead.
“I can’t stomach the fact that millions of tonnes of edible fruit and veg are wasted each year, whilst only 23% of us eat our five a day. That’s why I started transforming surplus fruit into healthy snacks…”
The adults’ range, Spare Apple and Spare Apple & Mango Crisps come in at under 80 calories per 22g with an RRP of £1. The kids’ Scrapples Apple, Apple & Mango, Apple & Strawberry Crisps come in at under 50 calories per 12g bag with an RRP of £0.60.
