Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) is set to visit the country’s red meat industry to find out about the challenges they face, as well as explore future opportunities.

QMS’ chair Katie Rowell and chief executive Alan Clarke will visit farmers, butchers and abattoirs across Scotland over the coming weeks to hear concerns about the sector and come up with ways to rectify anxieties from the industry.

Rowell revealed she was keen to hold meetings with those working in the Scottish red meat industry as she related to their challenges.

Having been a QMS board member for three years, and as a working farmer myself, I am familiar with many of the challenges our industry faces,” said Rowell.

However, it is essential, in my view, to speak directly with those involved and to hear at first-hand their thoughts on the potential opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”

Rowell has served on the QMS board for three years and succeeded Jim McLaren as chair of the board at the beginning of October.

She added that QMS had a strategic focus to miss no opportunity to deliver for the Scottish red meat industry.

There is always room for improvement and we will be very much taking on board feedback from the industry as our board and staff start the planning phase for next year’s activities.”
