Injuries reported after metal found in Spam
US: Hormel Food Corp. is recalling almost 230,000 pounds of canned pork and chicken that may be contaminated with pieces of metal.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) said items were produced on February 8-10 and have establishment number “EST. 199N” on the bottom of the can.
12-oz. metal cans containing “SPAM Classic” with “Best By” February 2021 and production codes: F020881, F020882, F020883, F020884, F020885, F020886, F020887, F020888 and F020889 were shipped throughout the US.
12-oz. metal cans containing “Hormel Foods Black-Label Luncheon Loaf” with “Best By” February 2021 and production codes F02098 and F02108 were shipped to Guam only.
The problem was discovered after the firm received four consumer complaints of metal objects in the canned products. There have been reports of minor oral injuries associated with consumption.
Hormel Foods said it affects 3985 cases of 12 oz. Spam Classic produced at one facility on one production day.
