Glycidyl ester levels in vegetable oil for chocolate
Belgium: Two chocolate products have been recalled due to high levels of glycidyl esters.
Hamlet NV recalled Amor Coeurs Chocolats after quality control at a supplier identified the problem.
Cupido brand Cœurs Amor chocolate with praline 65g has date 17/7/2019 and lot number 92275. It was sold since 23-4-18 at Nora 24 Rue de l’étuve in Brussels and Chocolaterie de Burg in Bruges.
Belgian Harvest Belgian Seashells 500g with lot number L92510 and date 22-01-2020 on sale since 25-4-18 at Kruidvat stores is also affected.
Ingestion could have adverse health effects if consumed in large quantities over a repeated period of time. There is no immediate risk in occasional consumption.
Glycidyl esters were found between 2,300 and 5,400 µg/kg - ppb in vegetable oil used as an ingredient for chocolate products.
Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Russia and the UK are also affected, according to the RASFF portal.
