Rodent droppings in chia seeds
US: Oregon Food Bank has recalled 22,201 pounds of chia seeds that may be contaminated with rodent droppings.
The chia seeds, donated to the food bank, were distributed in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
It was distributed in one pound plastic polyfilm bags with a twist-type closure or a resealable pouch between November 1, 2017 and March 9, 2018.
The issue was discovered after a customer complaint regarding foreign material. Product in inventory at Oregon Food Bank was determined to contain rodent droppings.
Subsequent investigation indicates chia seeds had evidence of rodent activity by the donor, Live Local Organic of Milwaukie, Oregon.
No illnesses have been associated with the product but consumption may present a health hazard.
