Food Safety Recall round-up 1-15 March 2018
Leucomalachite green levels in catfish
US: Heartland Catfish Company has recalled 69,016 pounds of Siluriformes fish (catfish) that may be adulterated with leucomalachite green.
Fresh and frozen, raw, intact Siluriformes products were made on 16 February, said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).
They were shipped to retail in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Texas and Vermont.
The problem was discovered after routine FSIS sampling revealed high levels of the chemical leucomalachite green. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions.
