Food Safety Recall round-up 9-15 February 2018
Plastic in chocolate
Australia: Mondelez International has recalled chocolate as it may contain pieces of food grade plastic.
Cadbury Caramilk 190g Chocolate Block best before 17/1/2019 and 21/1/2019 was sold in Coles, Woolworths, IGA's and independent retailers (Victoria) in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.
Cadbury Caramilk products were found to contain small, flexible pieces of food grade plastic as a result of a machinery fault during the manufacturing process.
Mondelez said products containing plastic may cause minor injury if consumed and the investigation has confirmed it is an isolated incident.
"Our analysis of the samples received to date has determined that this product does not appear to pose a serious health or food safety risk, but a recall has been initiated to prevent the risk of minor injury," said the firm.
Cadbury Caramilk products sold in New Zealand and other Caramilk items sold in Australia with different best before dates are not affected.
