Food Safety Recall round-up 2-8 February 2018
Coffee concerns lead to recall
Singapore: Singapore authorities have demanded a recall of Coffee Tree MyCafe “4-in-1 Penang Durian White Coffee” from Malaysia after reports of hospitalisations in that country.
The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) said it has requested information from Malaysian authorities and while the case is under investigation it has instructed the recall.
The agency added it will be taking samples for food safety tests. Consumers who have purchased the product can return it to the retailer.
MyCafe Penang Durian White Coffee appointed Acumen Scientific Sdn Bhd to run laboratory tests.
The firm said one ill person was given a pack of the coffee when she visited a temple.
"From the coffee packaging that we have collected from the victim, we noticed that the packaging was tampered with as it appears different from our own coffee packaging including the weight.
"It is reported that the latest investigation by the police shows that the tampered coffee sachets were distributed to public for free in a coffee shop in Penang. Again, we urge the public to be extra cautious not to take coffee sachets from unknown person and/or unknown source."
