Dutch meat producer Vion Food Group has appointed Theo Koekkoek, 46, to its supervisory board.

On the appointment, Vion’s chairman Sipko Schat said: “Theo has extensive international management experience in the agricultural and food sector and I am pleased to welcome him as a member of our board.”

Vion, a meat producer with turnover in excess of €4bn, has factories across Germany and the Netherlands and employs thousands of staff. The business has recently been hit by challenges in Europe’s pork market and decided to close its loss-making slaughterhouse in Zeven, Germany, last year, due to tough market conditions.

Koekkoek will succeed Toon van Hoof, whose term on the board will end at the company’s next shareholder meeting on 27 March 2018, as he is not eligible for statutory reappointing, according to Vion.

Toon van Hoof has made a significant contribution to the development of Vion since his appointment as a commissioner in 2003. I want to thank him for his dedication, support and commitment,” said Schat.

After van Hoof’s departure, the board will consist of the following: Sipko Schat, Hans Huijbers, Marieke Bax, Tom Heidman, Theo Koekkoek, Ton van der Laan and Ronald Lotgerink.
