Food Safety Recall round-up 22 December 2017 - 4 January 2018
Illnesses linked to raw oysters
Hong Kong: The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has suspended import and sale of raw oysters produced by Huitres Geay in France due to a link to three food poisoning cases.
The CFS said four local firms had imported and sold raw oysters.
A spokesman said: "The CFS was notified by the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health of three food poisoning cases which involved consumption of raw oysters at three restaurants."
Taylor Finefoods (Asia) and City Super had imported and sold raw oysters produced by Huitres Geay in France at retail level but have now stopped supplying and selling the affected product.
Oysters feed by filtering a large volume of seawater so pathogens (such as norovirus), chemical contaminants or natural toxins can accumulate if they are grown in or harvested from contaminated water.
