Phagelux has entered into a multi-product development manufacturing and sales/marketing agreement with Passport Food Safety Solutions.

The biotechnology company’s US division will develop four bacteriophage-based products for Passport Food Safety for food safety and environment protection purposes.

The companies have been working together for the past two years.

Phagelux uses phages, lysins and other biologics and related delivery technologies to create antibacterial products.

The firm is headquartered in Shanghai with labs in China and North America and manufacturing facilities in China and the US.

Mark Engel, CEO of Phagelux, said it is developing products in multiple fields to target either difficult to address bacteria or antibiotic resistant bacteria.

“Our collaboration with Passport Food Safety Solutions will allow us to develop and manufacture four new products that will reduce bacterial loads in multiple problematic areas associated with food safety.”

Phagelux will manufacture the products in its US and Asian manufacturing facilities.

Passport Food Safety Solutions will then sell these four products globally with the exception of China and Japan.

Tom Nicholson, president and CEO of Passport Food Safety Solutions, said the work with Phagelux will develop bacteriophage technologies and applications to meet growing demand for pathogen reduction.

"Bacteriophage products are a cornerstone of our food safety portfolio and have been proven to be highly effective in reducing foodborne pathogens.”
