Food Safety Recall round-up 26 October - 2 November 2017
Parasite in fish
Croatia: The Ministry of Agriculture has informed consumers about a recall of fish due to Anisakis spp.
Authorities said after a consumer complaint, inspections and product sampling in retail confirmed the presence of parasite Anisakis spp.
FROZY SKUŠA CIJELA 1kg lot numbers 16717/17017/17417/19017 caught in FAO AREA 27 with a freezing date of 30 September 2016 and best before 30 September 2018 is affected.
It is manufactured by Congelados Illa de Salvora in Spain and distributed in Croatia by ZMH Horvat.
Anisakiasis is caused by ingestion of larvae of the nematodes (roundworms) Anisakis simplex and Pseudoterranova decipiens, according to the US CDC.
Within hours after ingestion of infected larvae, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting may occur. Occasionally larvae are coughed up. If they pass into the bowel, a severe eosinophilic granulomatous response may occur one to two weeks following infection, added the agency.
