Food Safety Recall round-up 26 October - 2 November 2017
Possible Staph in chicken breast strips
Canada: Maple Leaf Foods is recalling Chicken Breast Strips because they may contain the toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria.
Maple Leaf Chicken Breast Strips 840g with Best Before 2018 SE 29 is affected. It was distributed nationally at retail level.
The recall was triggered by a consumer complaint and there have been illnesses but the CFIA did not say how many.
Toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures. Common symptoms of poisoning are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever.
Maple Leaf Foods recalled Maple Leaf, Mina and Sufra branded further processed raw breaded chicken products in May this year for the same reason.
