Australia: Trans Oriental Import and Export Pty is recalling Betel Nuts due to the sale of prohibited food.
Frozen Areca Catechu – Betel Nuts various weights of 4 nuts per packet with best before 8/2018 and lot 160831 is affected.
Betel nut may cause illness if consumed. It is the seed of the fruit of the areca palm and there is no safe level of drug use, according to the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
The effects of betel nut could include mild euphoria and feelings of wellbeing, feeling alert, fast heart rate and palpitations, high blood pressure, red face and feeling warm and sweating.
Product was sold at Asian grocery stores in Western Australia and came from Vietnam.
